Arm Chairs in the Kitchen

I’ve got a vision.  Actually, Vector had the vision but I translated.  And he’s a cat..what does he care if I take credit for his ideas!  So, I had this idea to put a comfy chair in my kitchen. I do own beautiful Bar Stools and have placed them at the dining table, but a nice and comfy chair in the kitchen isn’t a bad idea. A place to rest while the cookies are baking or a place to curl up with a book while watching the comings and goings of the kitchen.

I put this chair at the foot of the stairs.

Vector loves sitting there. LOVES IT!

I put the freshly washed pink blanket on the chair to go upstairs and he liked it even more. It’s right on top of the heater vent and is a nice cozy corner. I’ve decided I need a nice comfy arm chair at that very spot. I’d like something small like this little chair I reupholstered.

Here’s a before and after:
iPhone. ChairiPhone. Chair
I would use this chair but it is white and I’m a little attached to it. I may just suck it up and use it but in an ideal world, I think the spot needs a vintage or retro pink pattern.

Here are some other chairs I was looking at. It’s really hard to find comfy chairs in the smaller proportions that the space needs.

What do you think? Should I use the white chair or keep looking? I’ve already given it one coat of scotch guard. Maybe I’ll give it a second coat and stop worrying.

My Parent’s Kitchen

My parents just moved from a suburban house on the south side of Houston to a more rural area north of  Houston.  I haven’t seen the new place but I’m excited to see what my mom does with it.  The first big task was to re-do the kitchen cabinets.

parents before

You can see there is an awkward peninsula with upper cabinets that close off the space.  There is also a wall oven and a range instead of a single stove unit. The oven was one of the few things that impressed me, and I vowed to read some countertop convection oven reviews when I got back home. All the appliances are white and dated.  There is also the awkward boxed-in area above the cabinets.  Here’s a slightly different angle and the awkward blocking cabinets are out and you can see things better.  Looks worlds better already!

parents during

Here is the “after/during” There still aren’t counters but you can see where it’s going. The cabinets are the flat-packed variety from online and my Mother put them together. I think they look great! A great budget option were some cardboard and plastic baler machines for quick clean ups.

parents after

The new cabinets go all the way to the ceiling opening up the room.  The plan is to use the Ikea Beech countertops just like mine. Finding quality bar coolers for sale requires a little research on your end  They are mostly installed already:

Here’s a fuzzy picture my mom texted me:

Huge upgrade from what was there!  I can’t wait to see it in person.  I’ll have to do a house tour when I visit!

Projects for Another Day – 2

These are mostly clothing/accessory projects to ponder.

1) Lacey jean shorts

Saw this on pinterest and I’d love to try it! I love the idea of being able to make these as long as is comfortable while still being feminine and cute.

2) Hex nut jewelry

I love the touch of metal and the structure without the bangle look. It’s impossible to type with a bangle but perhaps a layer of bracelets like this is something I could pull off. I’m working on building a wardrobe that is both casual and together. I’m getting there but some jewelry would pull me in the right direction I think.

3) Dip-Died t-shirt

here is a great tutorial/walk-through from wit & whistle .

4) T-shirt re-do

I have a t-shirt with a sequin stripe. It got me thinking, What else could I applique onto a simple t-shirt? Rick-rack, sequins, lace edging, ruffles, ribbon, etc. I almost always wear a cardigan to work so I can get away with a T underneath as long as it has a little pizzazz! Actually, I could just wear a t-shirt, shorts, and tivas like everyone else in the office but A: it’s too cold and B: I’m trying to look like a grownup.

Here is a similar shirt from J. Crew:

5) Spray-painted cowboy boot

I have my old, utterly worn out pair of cowboy boots lying around. I’ve decided it’s high time I do something with them. I’m thinking maybe purple. Pink is a bit much and I don’t want to be afraid to wear them. I’m planning on buying a pair of actual black boots so there’s no neat to stick to something so boring. Grey would work but equally as boring.  My mother had a pair of navy boots for a long time. That’s an option.

Again, let me know if you try any of these!  I’d love to see your progress and get some tips!
