New light in the Bathroom
Stefan has been hard at work getting the electrical up and running in the master bathroom.
Besides outlets, switches, and the vanity lights, he also installed this mini-chandelier overhead. It is nickel not chrome but I LOVE it. I’m just not sure if it’s working in the space. We’re thinking about moving it into our bedroom and installing recessed lighting in the bathroom instead. What do you think?
Vector was a big help installing it. He insists on being at the top of the ladder keeping an eye on things.

What do you think? Is the mixed-metal tone alright in an older house or does it just look out of place? What do you think of the light in general? Do you love it as much as I do?

tiling tiling tiling and more tiling
It’s been a long road but I am DONE laying tile in the bathroom. I still have a bit of grout to do but it’s looking good!
These are the tools of my trade:

The tile cutter, special cable winch, some plastic over the drain, and a bunch of partial tiles ready to be used or re-cut.
and a bucket full of thinset
These are Vector’s favorite part. I call it plastic kibble but they are really tile spacers. Vector LOVES pulling them off the wall and throwing them around.
You’ll notice something else in that picture, shower ledges. We purchased the ledges from www.shower-shelf.com and installed them with some construction adhesive and silicone caulk. Then I just tiled right around them.
Here you can see the tiling-around-them in process:
And, after much ado, the tiling is complete!
I must say, I am sick of subway tile. I am definitely going to take a significant break before I do the kitchen backsplash! I had planned on getting the tiling done more than 2 weeks ago but I kept putting it off. I’m glad I finally just sat down and finished it. It certainly helped to do it while Stefan was around to mix the thin-set. That’s definitely the worst part.
And a final celebratory picture, Stefan putting in the shower nozle so that the final piece of tile can be installed.
and voila! complete:
I hope you’re ready for some more bathroom updates. They’ll be coming later this week!

Downton Abbey Finds: Season 1 Episode 6
I’m afraid I have a bunch of things to show you for this episode. This is the one where Sybil gets hurt in the fight at the Election Count. Another good Sybil episode.
Lady Edith puts her moves on Sir Antony and eventually, he reciprocates. She does have the cutest short hair style. The curls on this bob are sophisticated and flattering. Styling short hair fancy can be hard but this is a totally do-able hairdo. Also notice how she’s wearing the same “frock” I commented on in Episode 3.
Sir Antony is a bit taken aback by Edith’s boldness but the real star in this image is that piece of spectacularly inlaid furniture behind him. I also love the vase on a plant stand with flower in it. That’s really a great way to add some pizzaz to a space that doesn’t quite have room for a piece of furniture.
Sir Antony and Edith go for their drive in his “Open Rolls Royce” and Edith sports cute hair, a cute hat, and the most darling linen jacket. I’d have to have a ladies maid just to keep it ironed but it is a beautiful coat.
Here is the Dowager Countess being told that the rumors about Mary are true. She looks shocked and appalled but she has a super cool mantle clock and a gorgeous Cameo at her throat. I love me a good Cameo.
Cora is hearing about the rumors in London from Carson but what I really love is the colorful embroidery on her dress. I can totally see sheers with embroidery being an up-and-coming fashion trend.
That’s all I’ve got for you today but episode 7 is coming up and it’s after the london season so we should be seeing some new clothes in the rotation.

Movie Inspirations: M is For Murder
Alfred Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder is a rather good movie. It was based on a play so the entire show mostly takes place in a single apartment. Grace Kelley stars as the accused murder and is so accused in this absolutely stunning dress. I would wear this dress all the time!
off-center buttons, bow at the waist, pleated skirt. I believe it is a sweater-dress or some sort of heavy-weight knit. It is so wearable but still decidedly vintage.
