It’s a Pink vs Pink showdown – fill out my survey

I picked up a couple samples of pink paint for my closet.  I know it’s girly but since I’m not going to have a pink bedroom for the first time….ever, I’m going to have a pink closet.  Besides, pink is so flattering.  Everyone needs to get dressed in a pink room.

The question is, what pink?  Option A on the left, Option B in the middle, or Option C on the right?  They all have a different feeling to them.   What do you think?  Fill out the survey and leave me a comment if a multiple choice just isn’t going to cut it!

Drywall is done!

This is going to be a photo-heavy post.  The walls look great!  I’m so excited to see things start to come together.  The house is still a mess but the end is in sight!

They worked on Monday and Tuesday but things were still kinda wet and the wet plaster looks brown and dingy so I waited a couple days to get good pictures for y’all.

Also, this technically isn’t drywall but blue-board and plaster. It’s a super smooth coat and is a “better” wall than the drywall. They use it because it’s super easy to blend with the existing plaster.

There is a layer of plaster dust on everything.  I haven’t gotten around to getting everything cleaned up… I’ve been avoiding it!

I have lots and lots and lots of mopping and dusting to do. Yuck! I mean, just look at that mess!

There are lots of pictures below.  It’s a little hard to tell what’s going on but consider that the house looked like this just a week ago!

Lots of cleaning and then painting and then tiling and decorating! Whoop.

P.S. There are lots of pictures below. To remind yourself of the pre-blueboard, check out this post. This post has the hung blue board up.

Boston Update

Hello readers.

I thought I’d just write a quick post saying I am A-OK. Arlington is a little north of the areas that are affected by the current lock-down. My prayers are fervent for the police that are leading this man-hunt.

This photo from the Associated Press sums up the feelings of gratitude I have for these heroes.

Keep the people affected and the heroes who are protecting us in your thoughts and prayers today

P.S.  Expect a drywall post later today.  I let no terrorists stop my regularly scheduled programming.

Upstairs Hallway Lighting

Lighting in hallways is so difficult.  I really don’t like most flush-mount light fixtures.  I’m particularly not fond of “boob” fixtures.

Semi-flush is better

but still a little boob-ish.

There are other options. The semi-flush drum shade isn’t too bad.

But I think the real improvement comes when you get away from clear and move towards tiffany style shades.

That being said, clear light is much better for viewing artwork and I’d really like to get some neat large-scale pieces to fill the one blank wall in the hall. There’s no room for furniture so a large painting or a wall of artwork/pictures/etc is going to be the main attraction.

There’s quite a few semi-flush crystal fixtures but I’m thinking it’s too much.

This kind of mercury glass look is pretty but it looks more like an entry fixture than a hallway fixtures.

The other obvious option is a flush or semi-flush globe type fixture. Something like this would be easy, cheap, and wouldn’t make a big statement. The Schoolhouse shade also has the benifit of being very “in” right now and allows me to put off deciding on something more awesome until later.

What do you think?  You can see more shades that I’ve considered on the lighting collections page.

The one thing I have absolutely positively decided on is that the ceiling needs a ceiling medalion.  It will be a fairly simple one.

Something like:

but not $119…. I’m thinking more in the $30 range..

This one is very similar to what’s in the rest of the house. I’ll put of on deciding until I finally make a decision about the fixture itself.

I think I’m leaning towards a semi-flush schoolhouse. What metal tone though? Silver, chome, black, brass? SO many decisions.

I’d love your opinion. I can use all the help I can get!  Please comment!
